Our Attitude is Our Edge
Our Attitude:
Everyone who works here has a role to play that is vital to the success of the organization.
Our Edge:
DCG is a smoothly functioning team where cooperation yields maximum organization-wide productivity and profitability.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Each individual here is a "starter" on the DCG team
Our Edge:
The DCG "chain" has no weak links
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
No one here is indispensable
Our Edge:
DCG is an idea, a philosophy, a state of mind. It is not one, or two, or several talented individuals and their "supporting cast". This has enabled us to "graduate" a great many senior people through the years, without essentially changing what the company is or what it's about, and has allowed the quality of its work, its growth, and its profitability to remain consistent.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Constantly encourage and foster teamwork
Our Edge:
This teamwork orientation spills over to our relationships with our clients, who are comfortable seeing us as loyal, committed members of their organization rather than as hired outsiders who place our own selfish interests ahead of theirs.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Have fun, encourage laughter, and don't take the anti-growth whackos, or ourselves too seriously. (However, we do take our work very seriously.)
Our Edge:
Meeting deadlines and bringing jobs in under budget, all the while dealing with mindless bureaucrats with their checklists and their creativity-sapping, brain-sucking volumes of "cookbook" regulations can be stressful. We are able to remain focused on our (and our clients') goals by using humor to put these types of distractions into their proper prospective. We are also able to stay physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy, all of which are needed for peak performance. Laughter is good for mind, body, and soul. "If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane" probably doesn't apply nearly as much to a planning and engineering consulting firm as it does to most other businesses, but it's still appropriate.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Shun buzzwords. Ridicule them until they go away.
Our Edge:
Why does the management of large corporations inevitably encourage the repetition of buzzwords? Is it because it makes them feel like they are part of something important? Or could it be a form of brain-washing? Either way, our team members don't need totems or rituals to give them a sense of belonging to a special group, and for the company to try to impose such silliness on them would be an insult to their intelligence.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Be the best at what we do.
Our Edge:
This keeps us properly focused on what's really most important, even when day-to-day pressures tempt us to cut corners and take shortcuts, whether we're working on a project, purchasing equipment, or hiring new team members.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Be future-oriented.
Our Edge:
This keeps us properly focused on what's really most important, even when day-to-day pressures tempt us to cut corners and take shortcuts, whether we're working on a project, purchasing equipment, or hiring new team members.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Do it right the first time!
Our Edge:
This leads to higher morale, more client satisfaction, and better budget performance than rushing something through with the intention of finding the mistakes and fixing them later.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Accept challenges.
Our Edge:
Through taking on work involving complex problem-solving, difficult design criteria, and ambitious schedules, we constantly improve ourselves, and ward off staleness and boredom. Plus, accepting challenges is the best way for us to...
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Show off our capabilities.
Our Edge:
We can talk all day long about how good we are, but it is only through putting our words into action that we can build a reputation -- a reputation of the kind that allows us to be selective in choosing our clients, projects, and co-workers.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Never stop searching for "a better way".
Our Edge:
That which isn't growing, is dying. What better "edge" could there be than "building a better mousetrap"?
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Never look back. Something might be gaining on you.
Our Edge:
We welcome competition, because we believe it keeps us sharp. However, looking over our shoulders to see what "the competition" is doing is a distraction from focusing on what we should be doing, and where the marketplace is beckoning us to boldly go.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Be positive!
Our Edge:
Our "Can Do!" attitude is very appealing to our clients, whose prior experience has all too often led them to think of folks in our line of work as "those guys who can think of a hundred reasons why it can't be done."
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Keep it as flat as possible.
Our Edge:
Our organizational structure, that is. We give every team member direct and immediate access to all other team members, including the firm's President. Pyramids breed paperwork, policies, procedures, and inertia, none of which are conducive to efficiency, and which sap energy which would be much better spent on client service.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Communicating is the most important thing we do.
Our Edge:
The right hand has to know what the left hand is doing, or the result is delay and confusion at best, and chaos and disaster at worst. We need to know what our clients expects of us, and our clients need to know what we need from them. Likewise, every team member needs access to the latest information available regarding their assignments in order to be efficient and productive.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Part of my success is determined by how well I help you reach your goals.
Our Edge:
Because we're all in this together. As our fellow team members achieve, so too does the team achieve. At the end of the season, we all get championship rings and winner's shares. This attitude applies equally to those we serve -- our clients. As they prosper, we prosper. Belonging to a team beats the heck out of going it alone (unless you're a hermit). No superstar ever reached the pinnacle without surrounding himself or herself with a lot of good people along the way.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It's what you do with them that matters.
Our Edge:
Accepting people for who they are allows us to focus on bringing out the best that is within each individual. Emphasizing the things that someone does right leads to more satisfying results, both short-and-long-term, than dwelling on their shortcomings ever could.
........................................................................................
Our Attitude:
Gratitude.
Our Edge:
Displayed towards everyone who makes it possible for us to support ourselves, our families, and others, in such a satisfying and enjoyable manner.
